Grand Theft Auto Series

The Grand Theft Auto series is Rockstar's widely acclaimed sandbox game. It was originally created by Dave Jones and later Dan Houser, Sam Houser and game designer Zachary Clarke. It is primarily designed by Rockstar North (Formerly DMA Design).

The player assumes the role of a criminal looking to make money. The game takes place in three cities, Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. It was developed for Playstation and Windows PC.

Grand Theft Auto 2 was released in 1999 for Playstation, Windows PC and Dreamcast. The game offered updated graphics and differing gameplay depending upon how much the different gangs liked and respected the player.

[edit] Grand Theft Auto III

Released in October 2001, Grand Theft Auto III was the Grand Theft Auto game to offer Third-Person view, rather than the top down of previous games. It is set in Liberty City, which is based loosely based on New York City. The player took control of Claude Speed, a criminal who was shot by his girlfriend Catalina and left for dead. He then escape with 8 Ball after the Columbian Cartel try to rescue another prisoner.

[edit] Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

The player is now Tommy Vercetti, a mafia goon in the sunny Vice City, based on Miami. The game is set in 1986 and follows Tommy trying to reclaim money after a drug deal gone awry.

Set in 1992, the game focuses on California gang life. The game follows Carl Johnson on a quest to get former Grove Street Families member Big Smoke and get his brother Sweet Johnson out of jail.

[edit] Grand Theft Auto IV

This game follows Niko Bellic, an off the boat Eastern European immigrant trying to escape into a remodeled Liberty City. Promised a mansion and all the women and money he could need by his cousin, Roman Bellic, the mansion turned into a crappy apartment, and the women non-existent. He is then betrayed by Dimitri Rascalov and is forced to work for criminals and gangs to get revenge.

The Grand Theft Auto Series features 3 handheld games, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories are both for the PSP, and the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS.
