Claude is the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto III, infamous for being unnamed throughout the game, and is popularly dubbed "Fido".
Claimed in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as a mute (one who cannot speak).
At the start of Grand Theft Auto III, he's on his way to jail after a bank heist which ended in his then girlfriend, Catalina, shooting him and leaving him for dead. After the security van carrying him is destroyed by members of the Colombian Cartel Gang in an attempt to rescue an oriental gentleman, Claude and 8 Ball(Another prisoner en route to Jail) escape to the safety of the first hideout. 8 Ball then helps Claude find work in the city, allowing Claude to gain fame and become known as a "Hired Hand" to many important city figures, including the likes of the Don of the Mafia and the head of the Yakuza.
It should also be known that his last name is never revealed in any of the GTA III generation of games. The suffix "Speed" is however, most likely his name, as the main character in Grand Theft Auto 2 is named "Claude Speed".
In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, after losing a race, Catalina and Claude move to Liberty City. This sets the events of Grand Theft Auto III in motion.
It is believed, but still unconfirmed, that Claude from Grand Theft Auto III is the same Claude as in Grand Theft Auto 2
