GTA 2

Scroll down for information about the sequel to Rockstar's controversial original GTA game. You play as the character Claude Speed. Speculation has it that he is the same Claude you play as in GTA III, however nobody actually knows for definite if this is true or not.

Gangs this page is on the wiki There are 7 gangs that you will meet during the course of the game. They are: The Zaibatsu, Loonies, Yakuza, Scientists, Rednecks, Russians and Hare Krishna. The Zaibatsu are on all 3 maps, the Loonies and Yakuza are on the first map (Downtown), the Scientists and Rednecks (Residential) on the second map and the Russians and Hare Krishna on the third map (Industrial). All armed gang members by default carry pistols and should your respect with a gang fall into negatives, they'll attack you with them. However, when your respect goes down to minus 4 bars they may attack with a more powerful weapon and when you're down to minimum respect they may use a different weapon still on maps 2 and 3, making a total of 3 different types of gunfire aimed in your direction. However, should your respect be at +5 or maximum, the gang members will shoot at anyone attacking you with pistols. If gang members from different gangs are near each other (for example at the border between two territories) then they will start attacking each other.

Hints and Tips this page is on the wiki This page will contain some general gameplay tips.
  • After you complete all 21 missions on a map, one gang member from each gang will close in on your location and try and kill you and often they'll pack powerful weapons such as a rocket launcher or a flamethrower, so be very careful. You'll get a warning at the bottom of the screen and the gang members will arrive in one of their gang cars. After you kill all 3, or they kill themselves, the entire map will errupt into chaos. Pedestrians will go crazy and start attacking everyone and pulling people out of cars. It's very easy to be carjacked and/or killed in these situations. The flamethrower is a good weapon to have equipped in this scenario.
  • The flamethrower will kill anyone it touches. It will slowly drain health and once on fire, it can't be put out and the person will die, that includes you. But because of this, don't bother wasting 15 uzi rounds into SWAT members and FBI, just set them on fire. However, if you anger the Hare Krishna or Scientist gang to the maximum, their gang members will carry flamethrowers so be very careful when in their territory. Having a flamethrower about your person at all times is a good idea.
  • The electro gun has a fairly wide range, and can attack people on the other sides of cars. So taking cover behind a blown up vehicle and attacking oncomers with the electro gun can save yourself some valuable health/armour.
  • Each gang payphone will have health and armour so if you need either or both then head to the nearest payphone and collect it.
  • If you have 5 bars or maximum respect with a gang, any cops who are chasing you will be shot at by the gang members with pistols. The SWAT teams ans FBI will slaughter your gang members, but they do provide useful cover so if you're in trouble, head for the gang territory. When you resume a game, you need to do something to alter the respect level before the gang will protect you, even if your respect is maxed out. Running one of them down in a car is a relatively painless way to do it.
  • Gunning down gang members will alter respect far quicker than if you do it in a car, presumably because you're partly hidden in a car. So therefore, if you need to alter respect levels quickly, do it on foot rather than in a car.
  • On Mad Island in the Industrial section you'll encounter a nameless gang, many of which carry pistols. They'll shoot at you regardless of your respect levels with the other gangs, so if you need to head into there for any reason, be prepared to brave a lot of pistol gunfire.
  • Even though SWAT Vans and FBI Cars will chase you at the speed of a Cop Car, when you get into them the SWAT Van has the speed of a Bank Van and the FBI Car has the speed of a regular civilian vehicle, so if you need maximum speed a regular Cop Car will have to do.

You'll also come across 4 different phones during the game. At each mission phone there will be health and armour as well as a weapon. In Downtown it's just Machine Guns, but in Residential and Industrial there are more "exotic" weapons to be found.

Missions this page is on the wiki The game is basically divided up into 3 maps: Downtown, Residential and Industrial. On each map you can do 7 missions for each gang and then one final mission right at the end after that. Depending on the level of respect you have with a gang, you can do either the green payphone missions, yellow payphone missions or red payphone missions if you have almost maximum respect. Once you've done all 22 missions on the map everyone will start to riot and there'll be complete chaos.

Police this page is on the wiki There are 6 wanted levels in this game, ranked in cop heads. (or stars in future games) In Downtown you can only go up to 4 stars, in Residiential you can only go up to 5 but in Industrial you can go up to all 6 stars. If you're arrested (Busted) by police, you'll be droped off at a random location on the map, you'll lose all your armour and weapons and your bonus multiplier will be cut in half. A breakdown of what you're likely to face at each level is below. One big difference between GTA1 and GTA2 is that now the cops can jump over vehicles where they couldn't before. You can lose wanted levels by either taking a civilian car through a Pay 'N Spray or by finding a Cop Bribe. A breakdown of what you're likely to face at each level is below. 1 Star
At 1 star you'll be chased by, at most, one Cop Car that contains two officers who will try and arrest you by punching you. Any cops on the street that see you will chase you, but you can easily outrun them at this stage. One pistol shot will kill them. If you go into lesser populated areas, you can ditch this wanted level, but it only works at one star.
    2 Stars
At 2 stars you'll be chased at, by most, two Cop Cars containing two officers each who will try and do the same as before. You can still outrun the cops and two pistol shots will kill them.
    3 Stars
At 3 stars you'll be chased at, by most, three Cop Cars containing two officers each who will try and do the same as before. Now cops will form roadblocks across streets with their cars and barricades, there will be officers inbetween the cars shooting at you with pistols. Any cops from chasing cars you can outrun, cops from the barricades you can't. It'll take 3 pistol shots to kill one of these cops.
    4 Stars
At 4 stars the SWAT team comes into action. You'll now be chased at, by most, one SWAT Van and two Cop Cars. Cop roadblocks will still be in effect. Each SWAT Van you encounter will contain 4 SWAT members wearing full body armour (similar to your own) and carrying a pistol. All cops will now run as fast as you can. The police can also abandon trying to arrest you and instead shoot to kill.
    5 Stars
At 5 stars the FBI are called in and all SWAT members and cops abandon the scene. You'll now be chased by, at most, 2 FBI Cars that take two rocket launcher shots to destroy. Each FBI Car contains two fully armoured FBI agents, one with a silenced machine gun and the other with a shotgun. FBI roadbloacks are now in effect, which are the same as cop roadblocks just using FBI Cars and the agents will fire silenced machine gun rounds instead of pistol shots. The FBI agents can run as fast as you can.
    6 Stars
At 6 stars the Army is called in and all FBI agents abandon the scene. Martial Law is enforced and the streets are cleared of pedestrians and cars. Hundreds of army men armed (not armoured) with machine guns patrol the streets. You will be chased by, at most, 2 Land Roamers carrying 2 fully armoured army men armed with machine guns. Armed Land Roamers, Pacifiers and Tanks will roam the streets. Tank roadblocks are now in effect consisting of tanks and barricades, no soldiers. The tanks are active and will rotate their turrets to fire at you, you cannot hijack these tanks, free roaming tanks can be stolen.

Vehicles this page is on the wiki Most vehicles will fall into similar classes and have similar characteristics to other vehicles. For example, sporty cars have good high speed and are good for moving places quickly. Vans, Bank Vans, Limousines and Buses will be needed if you have to transport a group of people somewhere. Another thing vehicles are useful for is crushing for money and powerups. Unless the vehicle is too heavy (like a Bank Van) or too long (like a Bus or Limo) then it can be crushed. What you get varies from vehicle to vehicle and is indicated in the table below. Non-gang versions of most gang vehicles exist, but they are very rarely seen, so the gang version has been listed below. Also some vehicles may give out a different powerup when crushed on different maps. Many vehicles come in different colours and some will appear in special colours (such as a black van) in special missions, they can't be spray painted that colour.

Vehicle Weapons (needs to be ported to the wiki!)
New to GTA2, you can now arm your vehicle with equipment, and some special vehicles have things built into them. The Vehicle Bomb, Oil Slick, Mines and Machine Gun upgrades can all be bought from the Garages around town, the other upgrades can only be obtained in special circumstances. Vehicle Bomb
Costing $5'000 this device, once activated, will blow your car to bits seconds later. Once you've armed it you should get out and run. Very handy for destroying other vehicles or catching people unawares.
    Oil Slick
Costing $10'000 you'll get 10 oil slicks for your money. When you deploy one, any vehicle that drives over it will go out of control and veer wildly to one side. This is very useful for pursuing cop cars if you don't want to blow them up with mines and get yourself into more trouble.
    Mines
Costing $50'000 these things are not cheap at all, but for your money you'll get 10 mines that you can deploy behind you. They have the power of a rocket launcher when they explode so most cars will only take one mine to destroy. This is probably the best anti-cop weapon you'll find, it can give you some much needd breathing space in a high speed chase. These are not available at the garages in Downtown.
    Machine Gun
Costing $25'000 for 10 rounds (of 10 bullets each), this is very handy for gunning down pedestrians on the street, but also can be used for destroying vehicles in front of you, such as roadblocks and the like. It fires 2 streams of bullets in the direction the vehicle is pointing.
    Tank Gun
Found only on the tanks, when you get in a new tank you'll have 20 rounds. It's basically a rocket launcher in all aspects.
    Water Cannon
Found only on the fire trucks, it's primary use is for putting out fires. But it will also knock people back and eventually kill them. Because of this, it's very handy for repelling cops as they rush to your vehicle.
    Jeep Gun
Found only on Armed Land Roamers, the turret can rotate 360 degrees and is basically a regular machine gun on a turret. Each Armed Land Roamer comes equipped with 20 rounds of 10 bullets each.
    Flamethrower
Found only on the firetruck in the Flame-It! mission in the Residential map and on the firetruck as the reward for finding all 8 hidden cars on the same map, it's basically a regular flamethrower mounted on a turret.
